Siesta after unhealthy meals

Spain is famous for its siestas. Well, having a heavy lunch and spending some time relaxing before starting work again sounds like a very attractive proposition. However, having a siesta can be a very unhealthy thing if you do not have a healthy lunch. Why? Well, if you do not eat nutritious food and stuff yourself with unhealthy carbohydrates, taking rest and sleeping after the meal is only going to enhance the rate of fat accumulation. The concept of a relaxed afternoon makes sense only if you do a lot of hard work in the morning and evening.

Ignoring this basic rule and focusing only on the pleasures of life is not going to work. Having a high carb diet can lead to disastrous consequences for productivity. For starters, the individual will feel very sleepy and sluggish. This will automatically reduce his or her efficiency. Further, the individual may make basic mistakes as far as safety and security is concerned. What is the point of attending manual handling training courses and sessions if you allow your sleepiness and sluggishness to control you?

This is an important point that employers must consider. If you encourage your employees to bring food from home, you should make sure there are general guidelines that govern this habit. Having oily and fatty foods during lunch may seem like a great thing in the initial phase. However, the food being shared amongst all the employees will result in productivity coming down drastically.
Try to be proactive as far as fitness of your employees is concerned. Do not hesitate to set up a few treadmills in office where employees can work out to get rid of their post meal drowsiness. It would help if you ask your employees to sign a health pledge where they commit to improving the overall fitness so that their contribution to the firm remains optimum.
