This is the third time I’ve swum in the past two weeks, following a gap of about two years. I can almost hear my swimming teacher’s voice – “Knees up together, kick out and round,”as I try to synchronize my legs.

The first few lengths are fairly easy then we enter the torture zone. I’m out of breath and uncoordinated, I see that the bottom of the pool is far from clean and don’t want to think about what wounds the floating plasters have peeled away from. Then I get an attack of pool rage. Why is that idiot trying to do butterfly in the slow lane? Why are some women wearing full make-up and refusing to get their hair wet? Why am I overtaking people swimming in the medium lane next to me? Will those school children, whose lessons are necessary, just be a bit quieter?

I swim on to the end and rest. I wait for a gap between me and a swimmer and then I launch myself off the wall and swim to the bottom, again avoiding the debris down there.

Suddenly instead of fighting against myself, my breathing finds a rhythm, my body does what it needs to do automatically and I feel myself stretching pleasantly into every stroke. I’m moving forward and yet my mind is somewhere else and suddenly I feel clear and peaceful. The other swimmers and the noise of the pool don’t bother me as I count out each length. The colour of the water relaxes me even though I’m working quite hard. It feels good to be working out, but not so hard that I’m exhausted. I look up at the clock, not bad, I could do with going a bit faster, so I push the water away from me with my hands and arms and I kick a bit harder. Thirty lengths later, I’m panting but not gasping. Armed with my blue beach towel, I feel like I’m ready to take on the day.

At the following link you’ll find the Enigindesign blog, and a post which asks the question (or talks about another blog which asked the question) “why is design important?”

To answer this question (and I can almost assure you this here post will probably be the last one which attempts to ask that question again), next time you walk around the supermarket, have a look at what’s on the shelves and where everything is placed. Pay attention to all the subtle details that you’d normally miss; like branding, and where signs are and what they specifically say. There are no accidents in supermarket design, you see, and that’s one way of illustrating how design can have a big psychological effect – in this case driving customers to make decisions about buying products they don’t necessarily want or need, without them even knowing it!

For example, the products that the supermarket wants to sell the most are located on the right hand shelves as you walk in. Why? Simple of course: most people are right-handed.

Internet design is something else of course. They can’t use the old right-handed trick on you there!

Eniginknow all about this in ways that I just don’t and could never pretend to. Their dedicated design blog is full of all kinds of fascinating posts about design stuff, marketing and everything to do with the world of energy saving, of course.

While Enigin are primarily energy saving people – with a slew of products which can help you monitor your energy levels – they have blogs on money and internet marketing too. Basically, they’re your one-stop-shop for most everything. Unless you want to buy food.

If you are thinking about getting married, there are so many things that you need to prepare yourself for. Money is one of them. It may not sound romantic, but couples need to have a serious talk about the state of their finances, before they walk down the aisle. This is something that is commonly over looked by many. But you can save yourself and your future spouse a lot of heartache by discussing your financial situations at the beginning of your marital journey. It will be necessary to share with your fiancé information about any outstanding debts that you may have, your philosophies about money, your financial goals and your views on spending. This is very important since conflicts about money are one of the main reasons couples get divorced.

Consider consulting a financial advisor and drafting up a pre-nuptial agreement. This legal document isn’t just for the wealthy and famous. They can help anyone who has money that they don’t want to lose during a nasty divorce. Many people don’t even consider this option since divorce isn’t exactly on a person’s mind when they are planning a wedding. A pre-nuptial agreement may not be for everyone. But there are situations where it can be practical. An example of this may be the person who is an heir to a large fortune, or someone who is a business owner. In these instances, it would be wise to put in writing how those assets would be handled if a divorce should take place. A pre-nuptial agreement can also protect children from losing their inheritance if one of their parents is getting married for the second time.

Don’t let the expense of your wedding get out of hand. The typical American wedding can cost more that $20,000. Some couples can easily afford this. Others cannot. Expensive weddings can cause a couple to begin their married life deeply in debt. This can put a major strain on a relationship. The first year of marriage can be challenging enough as couples adjust to their new life together. A new debt from a lavish wedding can only add to the burden. A wedding can be memorable without being expensive. The amount you spend on your wedding should comfortably fit into your budget.

Before you get married, it’s also a good idea to determine how you will mix your finances. Talk about what types of accounts you will have. Decide if you will have separate savings accounts and credit cards, or if you will do this jointly. Try not to have arguments about money. Respect your spouse’s views about finances and he or she will likely do the same for you.

If you have a favorite celebrity chances are there is gossip about them. There are newspapers, magazines, and websites devoted to celebrity gossip. With the technology age you do not even have to wait to the next day to get your update. There are places online that update with new content every five minutes. Can you believe there is a rumor or a scandal about a celebrity every five minutes? I mean, people really care who is dating who and where they got their vaser lipo done…

There are so many people drawn to celebrities like a moth to a flame. They really are no different that everyone else except of course they make their living in front of a camera. They also pull in a lot of money for being celebrities. The gossip, rumors and paparazzi are all just part of their lives because of their jobs. If you think about some of the people you know could you imagine the things you could learn about them if they were a celebrity? I mean sometimes the smallest things blow up in the media to the biggest stories.

Celebrity gossip can be very interesting at times. You have to keep checking for updates and retractions though because sometimes it is all a lie. Of course not all retractions are because they are lies. Some retractions are printed because of legal issues or threats. If you are a celebrity gossip junkie though there are more than enough places that you can get the latest scoop. There are even television shows that are dedicated to the latest celebrity gossip. Even if there is not currently any gossip about your favorite celebrity there is more than enough about others to keep you interested. If you keep up with celebrity gossip sooner or later you will be able to get the low down on your favorite celebrity as well and always be up to date on whats going on.

Fruit & Veg. We all know we should have five a day and it’s all very important to our health and our lives and all that, but who really bothers? I mean really, do you? Do you actually have five separate fruit and veg things a day. OK, You over there might be nodding all smugly, and You in the corner by the window might be gloating like crazy too (sorry, I can’t include everyone, so apologies), but it’s a fact that many more of You reading this (I’m being optimistic and hoping there is a many…) will be as bad as some really stubborn children, or maybe, in some circumstances, even worse. And now for my point; regardless of if you like fruit and veg or not, you should have a look at this here link.

The article over at the Enigin blog got me thinking quite a bit. It got me thinking about how often I go to the supermarket to buy fruit and discover, when I get home, that some of the fruit has already gone bad. Already! Would you believe it?! Fruit I’m convinced I checked thoroughly, just so I could be sure that this wouldn’t happen again! How annoying is that?! And it doesn’t help when you’re not a massive fruit fan to begin with, either. The magic-fruit-gone-bad thing is just another reason not to bother.

It’s my opinion that if supermarkets could get their act together, we’d all spend a lot more money on fruit and veg. Of course, if they did then I would also have to make myself eat more fruit and veg, so that might take some will-power too…

Do you know all about that odd thing people sometimes mention called HTML? When seated in front of a computer does your mind boggle with wonder–Ooh, how much memory does it have–and Oooh, how fast does this puppy process information?! Ooooh…I must sell all my high-heeled shoes and purchase the latest computer gadgetry!

No, I don’t either, and my mind certainly doesn’t work in that way. You’re not alone there. I’m just a simple girl who loves shopping and going out. What does it matter to me or you?

Answer: actually quite a lot. The internet is everywhere and involved in everything, you see. Therefore, if you have the faintest idea of what it’s all about then you’ll be one step ahead of some people (like me).

Know why you really should hurry up and click on this link? It’s like this, see: it’s clear and concise information that anyone can understand, and you don’t even really have to like computers of HTML! I’ve just looked at it and I can safely say that I feel better already. I’d still much rather go and wander about shopping than sit in a computer lesson but still, I feel like some progress has been made, however small.

There’s a very serious side to all this, of course: yes, we’re talking about employment. It doesn’t matter how low-cut your top is (usually) or how much you can bat your eyelids (unless you are exceptional), you need to know this stuff. So I suggest you get cracking people, whatever gender you are. Time is of the essence!

Parenting a teen is one of the toughest jobs around. You are juggling trying to be the mom, a friend and a protector of your teen. Parenting a teen requires you to be the leader and although you want to be their friend, it is much more important that you are the person they can trust to make the right decisions for them. This can be difficult as many times the teenager is very challenging to handle. Below are some tips to help your child through the natural stages of being a teenager.

Remain Calm – There is going to be many arguments and disagreements during these years. Stress can build up to a point where you find yourself not able to think clearly. You teenager will not be listening to reason during this time and will often challenge you. It is important that you remain calm. Sometimes this requires you walking away from the situation until you can handle it more rationally.

Talking Back – This will definitely happen – ALOT! This is just another way for the teenager to challenge you as their mom. They want to see how far they can go. It is important for you to stop back talking right in its tracks. You should not give in to it not even once. If your teenager talks back to you, immediately hold them accountable and let them know that this behavior will not be tolerated and is unacceptable.

Praise – It is important to praise them when they are showing good behavior. Even if there is nothing too significant, you should still find something to praise them about on a daily basis. This lets them know that you are not just nagging on what they are doing wrong, but that you appreciate what they are doing right. This also helps to build your teenager’s self esteem.

Raising a teenager is something that every mom (and dad) will have to do at one point or another. If anything, remembering that you are the parent and they are the child and what you says goes will go a long way for you during the rough spots. And if nothing else works, remember that no matter what they do, there is always laser tattoo removal manchester.

The UK is special: whereas, in other countries which get much more rain, people manage to go about their daily lives without too much harm coming to everyone around them, we in the UK like to get the good old-fashioned lethal weapon known as the cheap and nasty umbrella out as soon as it starts to drizzle just a bit. Pathetic! Notice that word: drizzle? That’s an English word too, of course. It depicts the kind of rain that would never be allowed to waste breath in other countries, but in the <country-region />UK</place /></country-region /> is given a place in the dictionary and a reason to exist.

I may sound bitter, and to be honest I am, but I have no problem at all with umbrellas when it is absolutely chucking it down. But here’s the point I’m making: in <country-region />England</place /></country-region />, is it really chucking it down that often? Enough for people to moan that they need to carry around beach towel bags? The answer is no, it is not. Unless you live beyond Sheffield</place />, or in the valleys of <country-region />Scotland</place /></country-region />, in which case evolution has allowed incredible feats of nature to happen. Skin is more leathery, rain-water slides off as it does off a duck’s back. The umbrella, in some places where it never stops raining ever, is an integral part of a human being: a fold of skin that can be pulled over the head as and when.

No, the real problem I have with umbrellas is their lethal weapon ness. They truly are dangerous. Anyone would think that poking someone’s eyes out was the desired purpose of the tens of little daggery spikes on the outside. The umbrella has, and this is no exaggeration, made people fearful of walking along the pavement. It’s a war out there, so be ready! Either you are a weapon carrier and you are safe, or you are a vigilante non weapon carrier; in which case you better be either a) very short or b) good at learning to dodge.

As a people we are all different–Just, as my mother used to say when I was a boy struggling with the impossibilities of numeracy, English, Politics, Engineering, Sport and Economics, some of us are more different than others: special, in fact. In time I grew to understand what she meant, and a brand-new world of possibilities opened up (most of them bad). At first (for the first eighteen years of my life) it was a problem which surfaced daily, but suddenly, one day (and with the advent of Geeks becoming cool), it became known as an ‘attribute’. I liked it more then.

It’s the same with companies. There are many generic ones which are the equivalent of the chisel-jawed, incredible-at-sports-and-get-all-the-girls boys, and a few which exist in a different plain of reality, daring to go in a direction never trodden: that is, the companies which are the equivalent of the mysterious, outsider boy at school, as featured in such popular films such as ‘Twilight’. Enigin are one of these mysterious and daring companies. Alright, maybe not that mysterious (and they don’t condone vampirism or shape-shifting), but different nonetheless. See what makes this energy-saving firm unique.

At the blog you’ll find not one, but seven reasons why Enigin are different and what they have to offer. And most importantly the seven reasons aren’t actually one reason written in a variety of different ways, like every bad schoolboy would have done. This lot don’t cheat! They have actually taken the trouble to have a good think. The result is a single page of information that contains more integrity that ten big bad chisel-jawed companies could have put together!

Henry Moore has always been one of my favourite artists so I was excited to learn that an exhibition of his work was coming to Tate <country-region w:st="on"/>Britain</place /></country-region />. I went along yesterday and was certainly not disappointed. It was fantastic to see so much of Henry Moore’s work in the one place and to have such a variety of the various mediums he used.

Henry Moore is of course best known for his sculptures, but he was also Official War Artist during World War two and as such he made a series of drawings of <city w:st="on"/>London</place /></city /> residents seeking refuge in the London Underground during the Blitz.

The exhibition was clear and informative and divided Henry Moore’s work in to three main areas: Women, War and World Culture. Within the theme of Women was displayed of course Henry Moore’s Mother and Child sculpture which is perhaps one of his best known works and it was truly wonderful to see. However it was the theme World Culture which was perhaps the most interesting for many visitors such as me. <city w:st="on"/>Moore</place /></city />’s Reclining Figure 1939 which is generally interpreted as being threatening and sexual is said to be influenced by Freud and psychoanalysis, while Girl With Clasped Hands 1930 is clearly influenced by more primitive origins.

The Tate Britain has always been one of my favourite galleries and it was very interesting to witness Henry Moore’s sculptures and works in this venue. He is more widely associated with outdoor settings and in a way I did miss seeing his imposing man made sculptures set in the natural meekness of a garden or park. On the other hand it was great to see the full range of his work in the luxury of a gallery and with the accompanying information this really was an excellent exhibition.

I think I have a compelling answer for what we should put together for Neil’s party. We should book some val thorens accommodation as a surprise, you know that it is his fave place to go. Let me know so I can get numbers together by the end of this week.
