Henry Moore has always been one of my favourite artists so I was excited to learn that an exhibition of his work was coming to Tate <country-region w:st="on"/>Britain</place /></country-region />. I went along yesterday and was certainly not disappointed. It was fantastic to see so much of Henry Moore’s work in the one place and to have such a variety of the various mediums he used.

Henry Moore is of course best known for his sculptures, but he was also Official War Artist during World War two and as such he made a series of drawings of <city w:st="on"/>London</place /></city /> residents seeking refuge in the London Underground during the Blitz.

The exhibition was clear and informative and divided Henry Moore’s work in to three main areas: Women, War and World Culture. Within the theme of Women was displayed of course Henry Moore’s Mother and Child sculpture which is perhaps one of his best known works and it was truly wonderful to see. However it was the theme World Culture which was perhaps the most interesting for many visitors such as me. <city w:st="on"/>Moore</place /></city />’s Reclining Figure 1939 which is generally interpreted as being threatening and sexual is said to be influenced by Freud and psychoanalysis, while Girl With Clasped Hands 1930 is clearly influenced by more primitive origins.

The Tate Britain has always been one of my favourite galleries and it was very interesting to witness Henry Moore’s sculptures and works in this venue. He is more widely associated with outdoor settings and in a way I did miss seeing his imposing man made sculptures set in the natural meekness of a garden or park. On the other hand it was great to see the full range of his work in the luxury of a gallery and with the accompanying information this really was an excellent exhibition.

I think I have a compelling answer for what we should put together for Neil’s party. We should book some val thorens accommodation as a surprise, you know that it is his fave place to go. Let me know so I can get numbers together by the end of this week.

They often say that older generations were made a lot tougher; and a story like this one makes you wonder if it’s true.

If I got attacked by a five-foot killer fish then I’m pretty sure I’d be paralysed with fear. But not this shark’s-ass-kicking grandma…

Paddy Trumball was out snorkelling off the coast of Queensland when it all happened (and just how many snorkelling grandmothers do you know?)… Apparently, she was approached by the shark and then badly bitten several times. But this lady wasn’t going to be no easy lump of fish food.

After repeatedly thumping the aquatic killing machine on the snout, it got a bit miffed and tried to give her a good old-fashioned ‘death-roll’. But Paddy was having none of that! Unable to punch her attacker any longer, she decided to give him a good kicking – around the neck.

Wow. There is no way that I’d want to get on the wrong side of this old girl! And I’ll bet the shark was pleased to see the back of her as well. I dread to think of the amount of gore that would come about if this lady was attacked by a mugger. She’d beat any healthy young hoodlum to a bloody pulp.

Maybe this old dear could call up her bingo companions and get a task force together. Having people like this patrolling the streets of Britain would have a major impact on crime figures. And they wouldn’t even need to be paid that much because they’d already have their own pension schemes in place!

Seriously though, I wonder how many young people would have managed to survive a shark attack? You would have to be incredibly determined and very, very brave. Paddy Trumball is going to be alright, but she lost three pints of blood during her battle with the beast, it seems to me that this is one woman that needs to apply to Locum vet jobs.

I am ashamed to admit that I hadn’t thought about The Hoff for a long time until I saw this.

I’d just had no reason to think of him and what he might be up to with his life.

That was something I never thought I’d write down–Years ago I watched Knight Rider obsessively, like so many. Then I watched Baywatch obsessively, although it has to be said that The Hoff wasn’t my main reason for being glued to the screen, eyes-bulging–

Writing this post reminded me that The Hoff is, indeed, as sad as it is to say it—and you may wish not to read this next bit—a bit of a state these days. Some might say a real mess. A self-confessed long-time alcoholic (according to media sources The Hoff appears to be, tragically, the kind of whisky hording alcoholic you could see from space), David Hasselhoff has gone from being one of the world’s most celebrated celebrities, to a celebrity all but forgotten in the public eye. That is such a shame…

This makes me almost want to cry; and I’m sure if I watched Knight Rider right now I actually would do–

And what about this for a question: should there be another Knight Rider movie, maybe featuring The Hoff in the come back role to end all come back roles? I know there’s that other guy who played Michael Knight at another time, but he just wouldn’t do, would he? You’d have to have The Hoff! The Hoff or nothing, that’s what I say!

In Australia, like in the UK, the Government has recently sanctioned the use of comparison tables in order to rank schools according to their performance on literacy and numeracy tests. There’s been a lot of discussion about this, with many fearing that the rankings will become a form of ‘league tables’, pitting schools against each other. One of the concerns is, clearly, that the schools, which are apparently grouped according to similarly in demographics—such as socio-economic status or geographic location—will be inappropriately grouped, and that schools will be unfairly compared. A private school in a low socio-economic status area, for example, might be ranked against the local public school. While the former can pick and choose its students, who might come from nearby more affluent suburbs, the local school may not have any options about the students it selects, and may therefore struggle to achieve the same results.

Another issue with the school rankings is that they focus very narrowly on certain types of achievement. Yes, literacy and numeracy are important, but will the league tables tell us which schools are trying to address literacy amongst a student body who may primarily come from non-English speaking backgrounds? Will they tell us anything about, say, the pastoral activities offered by the school, such as counselling services, or efforts to engage the wider community? Do they say anything about a school’s extra-curricular activities, or the caring nature of their staff, or about their arts and music programs?

While parents deserve to know how their children are doing in school, school rankings are a problematic and short-sighted way of attempting to disseminate this information. Parents should instead get involved with their children’s school to get a better idea of its pedagogical, pastoral, and extracurricular emphases. Not only will they benefit, but the schools can learn more about parents’ and students’ preferences and needs, too.

You all know, I every so often look into online programs as a matter of interest and I have recently found a organisation that does online human resources software. To have all applicable people logged into a central network seems like a really convenient idea to me, also a useful time saver, I have no idea why this is the first time it is getting popular.

Why is it that so many guys have so many really annoying habits?

We all know they are prone to leaving dirty socks lying around and it seems to be a woman’s role to remind them not to. But why? No-one has to tell me not to leave my clothes heaped-up in a corner!

And they have an absolutely infuriating habit of disappearing. They normally do this when you need something doing around the house… But just try tracking them down; you may think that it is a simple case of them either being at a friend’s house or down at the pub. If only it were that easy… And it’s amazing just how many places there are where it’s impossible to get a signal for a mobile phone, isn’t it?

The other thing that really bugs me about men is TV programmes. If I want to sit and watch a soap or a soppy film then they always insist on starting a conversation. It’s maddening! When I am catching up with the latest scandal in Coronation Street I do not want to hear all about his day at work! But it is very different when it’s the other way round. If he is sitting and watching a football match then you cannot make a sound! It seems as if there is some kind of near-spiritual connection between a man and a televised sports event…

Men drive you nuts and I sometimes wonder why we bother with them at all. Mind you, they do have their good points; it’s just that I can’t actually think of any right now. Give me a while to rack my brains and I’ll maybe update this post…

Or perhaps I won’t.

Many women miss the opportunity of attracting that perfect man for them simply because they get in their own way. This can be avoided simply by following some of the tips below, there’s not even a need to undertake Micrografting to attract your man.

Confidence

There is nothing wrong with being a little shy, however, when being shy starts to get in the way of your love life, then you have problems. You can still be introverted and strike up conversation. You just need to get a little confidence in yourself. Hold up that chin, push back those shoulders and get out there and mingle. Let your inner beauty shine.

Independence

This is by far the most important tip. Many women who find a man and begin to date fall into the trap of letting him consume their entire life. You had a life before you met him, keep it. Besides, being clingy and needy is a total turn off to men. Honest it is.

Get A Life

Along with being independent, get yourself a life separate than your man’s. Once you land that perfect date, show him that you have your own life. Mix spending time with him along with going out with your friends and doing things without him. This will show him that he can also have a life without fear of making you angry.

Be approachable

This falls along with not letting your shyness get in the way. Do not let men intimidate you. You have a special tool – you are a woman and men love that. Stand proud and show your beauty. Be flirty and invite men to approach you. Also be yourself when they do. Nothing is more worse than meeting one person and having them turn into somebody totally different after the first few dates go by.

Take Care Of Yourself

Keep yourself fit by exercising. Do not let yourself get sloppy, even if you are single. Also, take care of your body by eating healthy foods and drinking lots of water. Get yourself a new hairstyle and maybe even a new wardrobe. This will not only help you to look better but it will build confidence and naturally attract men to you.

Do you remember those sculptures that a guy managed to do within the eye of a needle? They were in a lot of the national papers a year or so ago.
Then there was someone else who managed to write the whole of The Lord’s Prayer on the head of a pin!
Well, here [...]

Well, here is another example of awesome miniaturisation. This post, ‘Nought-Point Blank’ is all about some miniature handguns… and they actually work!

What is it with everyone being so obsessed with making everything as tiny as possible? Even the latest mobile phones and electrical gadgets get smaller and smaller.

Last night I went out with one of my mates after a lot of arm twisting, we attended a corporate soft skills training. I still can’t believe that Gaylene actually made me go to this, I mean you guys know me, this is everything I normally avoid Anyway, it turned out to actually be quite a good time, and shockingly I think I may actually do it again.

You would not think that your own personal love of ‘Chocolate’ could also seamlessly lead you into the love of a band . . .

Snow Patrol bring to bear something so rare in music: in the same song they can take you from the depths of despair to the upper limits of euphoria with little more than a change in the lilt of Gary Lightbody’s voice and a variation in the chords of a guitar. They can relax both a restless heart and mind with a few simple twinkly notes or a sudden and abrupt change in tempo.

For those of you who are also fans of this band is there really any more beautifully simple song than ‘You Could Be Happy’?

The words to the song so touchingly describe a sense of lost love and yet also still the strange heartfelt desire to wish that person well in spite of what has now moved away from us and left us broken hearted.

And what about the song ‘Chocolate’ that arguably first brought them to the commercial public at larges attention?

This was the song that introduced me to Snow Patrol – although I have to admit that it was not solely the song that drew me to the band. The video was just fascinating with the clock counting down seeming to destruction and the band playing on whilst events around them unfurled. There was something so strangely poignant about the idea that the lyrics of the song could begin with the line “This could be the very minute I’m aware I’m alive all these places feel like home” as the world around them descends into a bizarre panic.

In effect I would argue it is the way in which Snow Patrol embraces the fundamentals of alternative rock that makes them such an amazing band for me.

I need a bit of advice before I log off, I have recently been looking into email marketing software for this website that I have, to help me mangage all of my clients. Does anyone know any useful programs that they have already tried out? It seems that there are a lot of different online services, but to be honest I don’t really know what I should be looking for. If anyone has done this with their websites, it would be great to hear what you have found out.

Everyone gets them. You know, those unwanted eye wrinkles. There are some things you can do to reduce eye wrinkles naturally.

1. Avoid rubbing your eyes hard. Instead, pat them with a soft cloth or tissue.

2. Make sure you have a healthy diet and get plenty of sleep.

3. Reduce sun exposure as much as possible. The sun damages the skin and causes wrinkles. If do decide to strap on some running shoes every morning for a jog, make sure to apply a good SPF sunscreen.

4. Probably the hardest thing for some people, but very important in reducing wrinkles is to quit smoking. Smoking causes deep wrinkles. It is a proven fact. It exposes your skin to carcinogens and causes it to dry out. Give up the smokes!

There you have it, a few things you can do to avoid wrinkles naturally.
